Be My Guest

Recently I've been turning my attention to our bare bones guest room. This is the first place we've had the luxury of having an office and a place for loved ones to crash. I love prepping the house with fresh flowers and mineral water, but like I said, the room itself is lackluster. After reading Bri Emery's post on house guests, my motivation for rolling up the sleeves was rekindled. When it's finished, it's all yours.

Foras

Susan Welti of Foras Studio has one beautiful mind. I'm completely bowled over by her landscape design. The secret to this Brooklyn backyard? Symmetry, proportion, and a hedged perimeter.

Suddenly, translating this to our own space trumped a term paper. Hey. Priorities.

A New Lamp

Isn't he handsome? We wanted something substantial for our living room after the sun goes down. We originally tried a table lamp atop an accent table, but opted to live with a little less and really open up the space. It also helped curb my incessant rearranging (do you have that problem? Is it a problem really? More like an itch).

life lately

Isn't bizarre how days can just crawl by, and then suddenly become insanely hectic? Do you experience this? It's becoming quite maddening over here, and I'd love to find a happy medium.

During precious downtime, we've been exploring our new neighborhood and discovering some pretty rad pubs & eateries. We also finally have a dining table! It's a gorgeous thing full of weather & knots with industrial pipes for a base that my dad built with me for our new home. If you recall this post, you know the granary he sourced the wooden slabs from. No more Carbonara sofa nights for this couple! (Well... for the most part. Let's be honest.)

Have a wonderful weekend, no matter how busy or relaxing. XO
With the recent move into our first house, I got to thinking about the meaning and milestone a first home brings. So many memories will be created within these walls... our first Christmas... entertaining the in-laws... bringing home our first pup together.

I curated a sweet gift guide for the new homeowners in your life. While the happy couple may not be expecting a gift, they'll swoon over their new, precious keepsake.

a new living room wall

The first wall of our house has been painted! It took me something like a week to watch the sun rise & set on the swatch before pinpointing the perfect shade. With the help of my dad (love that man), our once wet-mud colored wall is a subdued, chalky milk.

Don't dads just rock socks?
i've been quiet. i know.

we're homeowners, chaps. it gets stressful in the end, but we're holding the keys. my mother came downstate to help me put my life into cardboard boxes & wish us well. well, that and cook, clean, and generally take care of her newly neurotic daughter.

if you're still with me, know that i love you. dearly. one day our home will have internet, winter break will come, and i'll be spending so much time with you. cross my heart.
we'll be packing up and saying goodbye to our teeny apartment in just over a week. we're supposed to be gradually packing our belongings, but school has me wrapped around its finger, as chris' career has him. i have this sickly feeling that closing day will spring on us & i'll be power packing before an exam or something horrid like that. i seriously need to squeeze in yoga & find some calm. or down some vino, you know, whichever.
